Dr. Joy E. Goode, D.V.M.

Dr. Goode Bio photo
Dr. Joy Goode has been a part of the Frederick Veterinary family for over 15 years! She graduated from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in 1993 and began her career in dairy medicine, gradually transitioning to companion animal medicine and surgery. Her undeniable passion for animal medicine stems from the opportunity to observe, study and enjoy the human-animal bond, particularly the diversity of each individual human-animal relationship. Dr. Goode spent many years at our office as a full-time veterinarian but is currently practicing here part-time as she offers relief-veterinarian services around the area. Through her relief-veterinarian work Dr. Goode has had the pleasure of providing many local animal hospitals and their veterinarians much needed, and well deserved, time off for vacations, maternity leave, illness and continuing education.

Dr. Goode grew up on the Severn River near Annapolis, Maryland and now lives in Reisterstown, Maryland with her 2 dogs, Elizabeth the Beagle Mix, and her latest adoptee, Julie Brown an older Beagle), 3 cats (Cimi Cimi Cocoa Puff, Darla and Midnight) as well as a rooster and6 hens! In her spare time Dr. Goode can be found practicing/studying sustainable and organic gardening, beekeeping, or attending civil war events and museums.

Dr. Virginia Smith, D.V.M.

Dr. Virginia Smith graduated from Iowa State College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997 after receiving a BS in Animal Science from Virginia Tech. She has practiced small animal medicine extensively in Frederick and Montgomery counties for the past 21 years. Her professional areas of interest include allergy and dermatology cases, pain management, and preventative care. She also enjoys surgery and the wide variety of cases that general practice provides.

Dr. Smith lives on a small farm in the Urbana area with her two children, Isabella and Jack. Her pets include: Daisy (shepherd/hound cross), Romex aka Diggidy dog (lemon beagle), and her horses BitOHoney and Talon. Her hobbies include horseback riding, reading, kayaking, and mowing (yes mowing). Because she grew up in western PA, Dr. Smith is also a big sports fan, particularly Penguin Hockey (but don’t hold that against her).
